July 17.
Bobcaygeon. Happy Birthday Jason!!!
This morning
we woke up to discover we had visitors last night. Racoons broke into our cockpit and helped themselves
to our trash. They were so determined
that the lid on the trash can was broken.
What a mess!
We were the
first in the Lovesick Lock which was only a 3 ½ foot vertical lift, the
smallest lift on the Trent. This lock is
unique in that it is an island and only accessible by boat. We enjoyed our relaxing stay at this
beautiful island.
We entered
Buckhorn Lake and enjoyed the open water.
We had a narrow approach through Big Bob Channel, but the biggest challenge
was trying to go only 2 to 3MPH following a house
boat. Patience is a virtue!
Bobcaygeon is positioned perfectly on three islands in
the beautiful Kawartha Lakes region.
Lock 32 was the first lock constructed on the Trent-Severn Waterway and
boasts the oldest swing bridge in action today.
She may be the oldest swing bridge, but she is the prettiest I have seen
on the trip. This bridge was painted
bright royal blue and decorated with huge planters filled with pink petunias. She swung open to us while we entered the
lock and gently whispered “welcome to Bobcaygeon.” Really!!!
Everything
was within walking distance from the lock wall.
We enjoyed our afternoon ducking in and out of stores with AC, while eating a large scoop of Kawartha premium, rich and creamy ice cream. They had a huge shoe factory as well, but their
prices are twice as high compared to Texas. It was too hot to cook on the boat so we
enjoyed dinner out at a fairly new restaurant, Waterside.
