August 1,
Baie Fine, North Channel
Left
Killarney and took a cruise to check out Covered Portage Cove. We were going to anchor in this quiet area
last night, but decided to stay in Killarney.
We are now traveling the North Channel and our destination is Baie Fine. The North Channel has some of the oldest
rocks in the world exposed on its north shore.
Many of the rocks in this area are more than 3 billion years old.
The North
Channel was calm today as we cruised to Baie Fine. We arrived at Mary Ann Cove and John helped
us anchor med mooring style among a dozen other boats. Once situated, we jumped in the dingy to hike
a rocky trail up a hill to view Frazer Bay. The forest was peaceful and full of
blueberries, but no time to pick berries, we were on a mission to go to the
top. I stopped short of a steep rocky ravine and let the guys go ahead. I was concerned about getting down that
ravine without twisting an ankle…played it safe. We got our exercise today hiking the rugged
trail!
Later that
evening, John and Lewis came over for a pot luck dinner. I served chili stuffed bake potatoes and John
had his trusty stew. The guys enjoyed a
movie while I cleaned up and before you know it, it was time to say our “good
byes.” We are going to miss traveling with them.

We were in Little Current the weekend of the Haweater's festival when we did our loop in 2009. It was a wonderful time with parades and fireworks. There was a water show with trick skiers, Cypress garden style, that I know you would have enjoyed. The cardboard boat races were one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Of the many weekend festivals we encountered on our loop the Haweater's
