Nov. 18-19th, 2011

November 18-19

What an exciting day...we locked at Coffeeville Dam and this will be our last lock until we hit the Carolinas!!!  It was a breeze!  We went under the Twin Fixed Bridge that is known by the locals as the Dolly Parton bridge.  (Can you guess why?)  At the Alabama River Junction the Alabama River joins the Tombigbee River and now we are on the Mobile River.  From this point south it is more reminiscent of Georgia swamps than a river. We had to hail the CSX Rail Road Swing Bridge which is known as the  "14 Mile Bridge" to request a passing.  We lucked out and our group did not have to wait. We anchored at Big Briar Creek and the fish were jumping.

Barb's last lock.  Hooray!!!!  From this point south waters are tidal.

I 65 Bridge is the first highway bridge we have seen in 71 miles! The Twin Fixed Bridges known as the "Dolly Parton" bridge is a reminder that we are emerging from the wilderness.

This sunken barge makes a great river flower pot.
