Heading out! It was a chilly 42 degrees when we left Rock Hall, MD.  The winds were calm and both of us were anxious to get back on the water.  The Chesapeake Bay was kind to us with smooth water. This was an isolated part of the Bay.  We ran 47 miles without a peep on the radio.  Today we bade the Bay farewell,  she gave us many magical moments!
We took advantage of the free dock at Chesapeake City, the entrance to the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal.  We toured the picturesque town filled with quaint restored 18th and 19th century homes and shops. The C & D Canal Museum had a fascinating display that illustrated the area's rich history.  The museum  was the original pump house which operated the old locks and houses the massive steam engine and cedar wheel that filled the locks.

Coming to the end of the Chesapeake Bay.

First Bridge at the C & D canal is the Chesapeake City Bridge

The sign says it all...The 14 mile -long canal opened to ship traffic in 1829, it was 10 feet deep and
66 feet wide.  More than 2,600 men hacked away with shovels and pickaxes for seen years.!
