May 18th, Cape May to Sandy Hook Bay
Up at 5AM for an early departure because we wanted to take advantage of the calm seas.  At first we had plans to go
Manasquan, NJ and anchor but as the day wore on and the Atlantic Ocean was fairly calm, we decided to keep on cruising to Sandy Hook Bay, right outside New York.  The Jersey shores kept tempting us to stop with miles and miles of white sand. Since Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey the ICW is currently not navigable, so we had to travel on the outside.  Thank goodness Atlantic was behaving herself!  A few hours before our destination the rain started and kicked up the seas a little.  We had storms south and north of us so we are being sandwich in for the next few days with bad weather.  Nearly 12 hours at sea, and traveling 135 miles, we were glad to pull into Sandy Hook Bay.
The windlass worked like a champ and the anchor caught the first time and we were hooked for the night.  This was on the of the noisiest anchors with the waves crashing and splashing onto the bow while we tossed and turned the night.  I thought at one time this is what Jonah felt like dipping and swaying in the belly of the whale!

The Atlantic City boardwalk was suppose to open this week for Memorial Day.

Last crab pot that we will see on the trip!  We are leaving the ocean behind!
