May 19, Entering Hudson River

Left Sandy Hook Bay to anchor at the Hudson River.  It was a rainy, foggy day and we waited to leave with the current around
noon.  We approached the Verrazano Bridge with a span of 4,260
feet which is the longest suspension bridge span in America.  The bridge marks the gateway to New York Harbor.  Once in the Harbor we cruised by many ships anchoring, however, we were happy that the boat traffic was minimal.  Our next sight was the Statue of Liberty.  With all the rain, I walked outside to get her picture! This a milestone in our adventure!
We headed to our next anchorage at Liberty State Park, less than a mile away form Lady Liberty, and the windlass would not operate.  Ken threw out our spare anchor and thank goodness it caught.  With the wind and the rain it made for a stressful situation.

Verrazano-Narrows Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the borough of
Staten Island are Brooklyn in New York City at the Narrows, the reach connecting the relatively
protected upper bay with the larger lower bay.
Verrazano-Narrows Bridge was completed in 1964.
The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the world was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States as a
universal symbol of freedom and democracy.  The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on Oct. 28, 1886,
designated as a National Monument in 1924.
