Sept. 10-11th, 2012 Onancock

September 10 - 11

After a whirlwind inland tour it was time to kick back at the boat and get ready to head out to our next destination.  We took the car back and picked up provisions.  We left the afternoon of the 11th once the winds calmed down and the seas greeted us with rolling waves.  We arrived at Onancock and found a quiet anchorage.  We were going to head into town when low and behold the dingy would not start.  So the next morning, Captain Ken rowed into town so we could tour this
eastern shore community.  This compact historical  town offered everything from antique shops to
gourmet kitchen ware to art to upscale restaurants.

This 1799 Ker Place was the home of John Shepherd Ker, a successful merchant, banker lawyer and
gentleman farmer.  The restored Federal-style home now serves today as headquarters for the Eastern Shore
of Virginia Historical Society.
