Sept. 9, Luray Caverns and Manassas/Bull Run

September 9

Ken surprised me with a bed and breakfast at Luray. After a leisurely breakfast we toured the Luray Caverns and the antique car museum.  Deep beneath Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, this U S Natural Landmark is the largest caverns in Eastern America.  We explored cathedral-size rooms with ceilings 10 stories high, filled with towering stone columns and crystal clear pools.  Deep inside the cavern we experienced the haunting sounds of the world's only Stalagpipe Organ.  What a thrill!

Reflection off the crystal pool.

It happened to be the 150th anniversary of the Battle of  Bull Run.

Bull Run is the name of a stream and this is where Robert E Lee crossed with
his troops.  We have a G Harvey painting with Lee in this stream at Bull Run.
