June 8th, Lake George

Took off in the rental car to tour Lake George, this is Ken's old stomping grounds and he was anxious to show me around.  We had a fun packed day driving a scenic route around Lake George and touring Fort Ticonderoga. Taking the ferry across to Vermont was an unexpected surprise.  We were on the ferry with about 50 bikers because this weekend was Americade,  a motorcycle rally at Lake George.  Lunch at Vergennes was a treat and we strolled down to the breath taking falls.  We topped off the afternoon by visiting a few old bridges in Vermont.  I can see why Ken loves this area, it is gorgeous.

Old Hammond Bridge

Hammond bridge is one of the 4 bridges in the town of Pittsford.  This 139' Town lattice truss bridge was built in 1842.
During the 1927 flood the bridge floated off it abutments and ended up in a field over a mile down stream.  During the winter of 1927-28 the town returned the bridge to its former location!
