June 15, Canada here we come!!

With passports in hand we were off to cross the border to Canada.  We had a 70 mile cruise to St. Jean and the sun felt good beaming down on Loop Dreams.

We raised the yellow flag indicating that we wanted to dock at customs and register our boat.  The Canadians Customs officials were friendly but professional.  With two other boats waiting to process they hurried us along and pushed us from the dock so we could cruise the Canadian waters legally.

Docking at a free wall at St. Jean we left to tour the city.  The town was depressed, and we were disappointed in the “must see stop”. However, we were directed to a grocery mall a mile away and it was worth the walk.  Dianne was in heaven…they even had a huge jewelry store in the grocery mall.  Yes, I said grocery mall…never seen anything like this before!  Halles St. Jean had a great selection of fresh vegetables and fruit, bakeries, bulk foods, deli, butchers and wine and spirits, all under one roof.

We walked to the first lock on St. Jean to visit with the lock master and he indicated that we will be the first to lock once they open at 8AM.   Surprisingly, the lock was very narrow and small.

Heading into Canadian Waters!
