June 18, Dianne’s birthday

Taking advantage of the sunshine we visited Fort Chambly which tells the story of New France from 1665 to 1760.  Built in 1709 and restored by Parks Canada in 1983, the fort celebrates its history with costumed staff in period encampments, reenactments and drills.

That afternoon, we celebrated Dianne’s birthday in style and visited Montreal Botanical Garden, which is one of the world’s largest and finest gardens.  There are some 30 thematic gardens and we made a point to visit the Chinese, Japanese and First Nations gardens.  The plant sculptures were amazing.

That evening we went back to down town Montreal and found Saint Denis Street, which offered many restaurants with a variety of cuisines. Happy Birthday Dianne!

A guardhouse built inside a vast military camp by the Britishin 1814 following the threat of American invasion, was used as an office for the officer and a shelter to soldiers in charge of the daily watch.
