June 19, Quebec
City
Ken has been
waiting for this day for years. We drove
over three hours to Quebec which was founded in 1608 by Samuel de Champlain and
is also known as the cradle of French civilization in North America. Quebec is the Capital of the province of
Quebec and seat of the National Assembly.
Quebec City’s historical district is the only fortified city in North
America, north of Mexico.
Our hotel
was located in Faubourgh Saint-Jean in Upper Town about half mile from the
fortifications of historic old town. In
the afternoon, we caught a double-decker bus which provided a 2 hour tour
around Quebec. We stopped at Fairmont Le
Chateau Frontenac which was impressive, The Plains of Abraham, Citadel, and Parliament
Building.
We enjoyed
walking down the cobble stone streets and checking out the quaint gift shops
adorned by beautiful hanging baskets of flowers. We had to stop and have a crepe filled with
cherries and ice cream. Great way to top
off the afternoon!
