9-19 Springfield, IL

The group left and Ken made arrangements for a rental car to pick us up.  We decided to make the most of our delay and head to Springfield, IL and tour the Lincoln museum.  First time Enterprise was an hour late and that cut into our already short day.  Our first stop was Lincoln's home.
Abraham Lincoln and his wife, mary Todd Lincoln, purchased this Springfield, IL house in 1844.  The one and a half story cottage was eventually expanded into a twelve-room, to story home.  It was the first and only home the Lincolns ever owned and where they resided for seventeen years and raised 4 sons.

The Lincoln's had a tree hole outhouse,  Ken said this is where they left their Lincoln's logs! Funny guy!
Illinois' current capitol building is the sixth capitol to serve the state since Illinois' entry into the United States in 1818.  Ground was first broken for the new capitol on Marc1868, and it was completed twenty years later at a total cost of $4,500,000.  the Illinois capitol is the tallest non-skyscraper capitol, even exceeding the height of the United States Capitol in Washington, D. C.
