9-8 South Haven

We caught a ride into church and then early afternoon we left for South Haven.  Lake Michigan was calm and we stayed close to the shoreline because of the easterly winds.  We arrived at the South Haven Municipal Marina and docked right next to a Looper.  We met Nancy and Tom Rae on Terrapin from Petoskey, MI.   They just started their loop.  While we were securing our lines, a familiar face was yelling at us from the road.  It was Theresa from Miss TeRae.  They were on the loop last year.  Later Don and Theresa invited us to go the American Legion fund raiser BBQ and we accepted along with our new friends.  It was a fun evening exchanging new and old boat stories. That evening we witnessed a picturesque sunset from the pier
Later that evening we walked up to the Black River Tavern to watch the Cowboys play the Giants.   Hooray, the Cowboys won!  It was worth staying up until midnight to watch the game!

The first South Haven lighthouse was built in 1872 and was made of wood.  It was replaced in 1903 by a steel lighthouse which is still in use today.  In 1923 it was electrified with a 200 watt blub.
