July 12-14 Campbellford

Left Picton at 6AM in order to be at the first lock at 9AM.  We traveled 72 miles and 12 locks and was blessed with good weather. Beginning at Trenton, Onotario, we entered the Trent-Severn Waterway which we will be traveling the next 246 miles.  We were locking with 3 other boats and we made it to Campbellford around 5:30pm.  The Campbellford Old Mill Park offered docking on the core wall with a 3 night stay for the price of two.  We decided to stay the weekend because there was many conveniences within walking distance.

Saturday we took a dingy ride back to lock 12 to view the Trent River at Ranney Falls from the Ranney George Suspension Bridge.  This suspension bridge is 300 feet long and offered a fantastic view of the falls.  Later we got out our scooters for the first time on this leg of the trip.  We traveled to the World’s Finest Chocolate outlet store and made a haul.  The prices were reasonable…maybe I should go on a chocolate diet! Yum!

Sunday, after church, we hurried back to the boat to find our Canadian friends, Rita and John waiting for us.  It was great to see them!  We had a leisurely lunch and caught up on old times.  They took off to Empire Cheese and Butter company where I purchased curds…they actually do squeak when you eat them!  Also, I picked up their red ribbon marble cheese and it was delicious.  Next stop was the Church Key Brewery, where they brew beer in an old church.  Each guy picked up their preference and off we went back to the boat to cool down and relax.  We enjoyed happy hour on the boat.
