July 18,
Fenelon Falls
Fifteen
miles and one lock and we were at Fenelon Falls. There were two spots left on
the wall with power and we felt fortunate.
This is a popular stop and we enjoyed the town. There were plenty of
restaurants, including one that overlooked the falls, where we had lunch. That afternoon we stumbled into Maryboro
Lodge which was built in 1837. This home
was built as the first settlers arrived, the plaster, paint, shingles and nails
had to be paddled and portaged to the site.
Its proprietor, James Wallis, ran the village’s sawmill and later a grist-mill which formed the nucleus of the present village of Fenelon Falls. The lodge is now currently a museum and was worth a visit.
