July 15, Scotts Mills Lock

We navigated 6 locks and traveled 57 miles today.  In the afternoon we stopped at the Hastings lock to do laundry. Thank goodness I have a strong husband that was able to carry 3 loads of laundry for a block!  While we did laundry we walked to the grocery store for some provisions.  Ahhh the air conditioning in the store felt great, because the temps were in the 90s today.

We headed out to cross Rice Lake which was a wide body of shallow water dotted with  islands and numerous fishermen.   This 20 mile lake led us to the entrance of Otonabee River.   Otonabee River snaked around through swampland, cottages and farms until we reached Scotts Mills.

My traveling restaurant served supper while Ken was at the wheel.  At 8:30 we pulled into Scotts Mills lock in Petersborough and docked at the blue line.
Cruise Ship coming out of the lock.

Cottages along the way.

Park Attendant using the hand crank to close the lock.

Osprey nest.
